AdminHistoryTomos Roberts was the University Archivist at Bangor University for many years. He attended Llangefni Secondary School and from there went to work as a journalist on the Welsh newspaper Yr Herald, based in Caernarfon. After some years, he then decided to continue with his education and attended Coleg Harlech before studying Celtic Studies at Liverpool University where he obtained a 1st class honours degree. At Bangor University he studied to become a qualified archivist, completing the Diploma in Archive Administration under the guidance of Prof A.D. Carr and Archivist, Alyn Giles Jones in 1979. He worked for many years on the Melville Richards Place-Name Archive before becoming the University Archivist.
He specialised in the study of place-names, but his knowledge extended much further. He took a particular interest in the history of local estates, especially Bodorgan and Penrhyn, and also wrote about several churches, including St Cyngar Church, Llangefni.
