AdminHistoryThe Lloyd family of Trallwyn, Llangybi, co. Caernarfon, can apparently be traced as far back as Llywelyn ap Iorweth, Prince of Wales. John Ellis, the son of Hugh Ellis, solicitor at Porth-yr-Aur, Caernarfon, was born in 1786. His grandfather, also a John Ellis, was Vicar of Bangor and Archdeacon of Merioneth. In 1811, the former John Ellis assumed the surname Lloyd by Royal Licence in compliance with the testamentary injunction of his grand-uncle, the Rev. William Lloyd (son of Hugh Lloyd of Trallwyn). As John Lloyd he ascended to the estate of Trallwyn following the death of his elder brother Hugh, his father and uncle, John Ellis, rector of Llanystumdwy - all of which in turn were to have a life interest. John Lloyd married Jane, daughter of the Rev. Griffith Jones and by her, had issue, John Ellis Lloyd. He was born 10 May 1819, and married on 21 August 1845, Eleanor, daughter of John Sothern of The Priory, Liverpool. John Ellis, their first born, died at the age of 16, and the estate went to his brother, Charles Henry Lloyd, born 1847.
