The list, which includes the names of several Welsh priests, gives the county or diocese of origin, the colleges attended, year of ordination and year of death. John Throckmorton (d.1580), vice-president of the Council of Wales and the Marches and a key figure from the viewpoint of Welshrecusant history; Sir. John's brother-in-law was John Edwards of Plas Newydd yn y Waun, Chirkland, a staunch recusant; another member of the Welsh gentry, Cadwaladr Wynn of Foelas, Denbighshire, had married Winifred Throckmorton, niece of Sir. John; while the priest Thomas Vaughan of Courtfield who died at Cardiff in 1646 describes himself as a nephew of Dr. Gifford. A pedigree of the Throckmorton family is attached.
