TeitlImportant document by which third Sir Richard Bulkeley passed over claims of his children by his first marriage upon the children of the second
DisgrifiadOne of the important documents by which the third Sir Richard Bulkeley effectively passed over the claims of his children by his first marriage and concentrated all the Bulkeley inheritance, both in Cheshire, Carnarvonshire, and Anglesey upon the children of the second, so often described as "Dame Mary, daughter of the Lord Burgh". This document is dated 16 Aug.,1585, and on the dorse is an attornment by practically all the tenants, but not for some years, the Anglesey farmers attorning in 1591, those of Cheshire in 1594. On the dorse, too, is an interesting memo. that Thomas Bulkeley [afterwards the first Viscount], the second son of Sir Richard and Dame Mary, was born at Cheadle on the Cheshire estates on 10 August, 1585, i.e., six days before the date of this indenture. 47 years later, Thomas B. had to sign an indenture redressing the balance in favour of the children of the first marriage, pursuant to an award by Lord Savage and Sir William Jones of Castellmarch (BHILL/62)
