TeitlLetter from Humphrey Vaughan to Richard Bulkeley, the younger
DisgrifiadRefers to various stages in the procedure of the suits against Thomas Cheadle [consequent upon the rumours succeeding the death of R.B.'s father, the marriage of Cheadle to R.B.'s mother, and the bitter feelings thus engendered] at the Star Chamber and the Court of Wards. There is a reference to "my Lord of Lincolne" [then Bishop of Lincoln, the later Archbishop John Williams] which, if Vaughan is correct, shows J.W. in the light his detractors like to shed upon him: "My Lord ... sent for me tuchinge this buisnes offereinge any assistance he can doo for you, but withall professinge that he loves Mr, Cheadle”
