TeitlSurrender and complete quitclaim in favour of Thomas Bulkeley of all his claim and right to any or all of the landed interests of Sir Richard B. the elder, Sir Richard his son, and Richard Bulkeley, esq., his son (who died in March, 1639-1640) by Robert Bulkeley of St. Clement Danes in co. Middlesex, for a consideration of £200.
DisgrifiadThirteen witnesses headed by Tho. Cheadle, whose signature becomes more flamboyant as the years pass on. It is somewhat of a surprise to find his name in this context at all, remembering the very bitter feeling between him and the Whytes of Friars and the Bulkeleys of Baron Hill just a short time before [Gwydyr Papers, nos, 1624-1625]. Robert Bulkeley is a greater mystery still: he must have been the "Robert" so obscurely placed in the Pedigrees (42) as a grandson of Sir Richard B. the third, between Richard Bulkeley, esq., and Peter Bulkeley his brother (both of whom were dead before the middle of 1640). There must be some serious reason why his name is never referred in the various Bulkeley dispositions of property between 1621 and 1640. On the dorse of the document, written considerably later, is a short description of the release by this Robert, adding "viz. Robin the Slipp". What is the exact connotation of that nickname? Also, two bonds of obligation by Robert Bulkeley to observe the terms of surrender, one dated 8 Oct.; the other 19 Oct., 1641
