The accompanying bond of obligation in £20 by Ieuan ap Rees ap Hwlcyn to the aforesaid Katherine, to her brother Meredydd ap Ieuan ap Rees, and to Rees ap Llywelyn ap Ithel, states more fully the intent and purpose of the release – it was the marriage settlement of Katherine vch Meredydd and the son and heir of Ieuan ap Rees (his name looks much like Nicholas, however strange such a Hebraism would sound in commote Uchaf at this period), with a somewhat blunt proviso that if S. and K. have children lawfully begotten before the Feast of All Saints, 1535, they may enter upon the premises, notwithstanding the seisin to Ieuan ap Rees; if they die without issue, then the two tenements and the fifty yards mountain land adjoining go to Tudur ap Meredydd and Rees ap Llywelyn [presumably in equal portions, though that is not declared explicitly] |
