TeitlNature diary 'Book 1'
DisgrifiadWhalley's first nature diary. This diary really sets the tone for the collection and encapsulates everything that the nature diaries represent: an account of nature in England and Wales from the mid 1940's onwards. Primarily focuses on Whalley's time spent in Surrey, but also visits to North Wales. Contains lists of the different birds he sees throughout the months. Details the weather over the year and contains small accounts and different thoughts Whalley has about birds he observes. There are many anecdotes of walks Whalley has undertaken along with a few sketches e.g., a young kittiwake in mid August 1945. In the rear of the diary, there is some data which records summer migrations of birds 1945-46 accompanied with a graph.
