Disgrifiad | Explains his delay in giving Owen an account of the business concerning the entries to be made in the excise office for the ease of some parts of Anglesey; the Bill for additional excise passed but lately and the writer attended very closely lest it should escape him. Enclose a copy of the proviso which will answer the end proposed in it. Was afraid at first that the charge of keeping so many officers might abstruct the design, but the writer took care to satisfy as many members beforehand as he thought would oppose the clause. Has brought another proviso into the Militia Bill to exempt the Isle of Anglesey from being compelled to send their militia out of the country. There was a design to draw a fourth of the militia into any part of England. The writer has not been wanting to represent the dangerous condition Owen's country is in, and indeed, all the sea cosats. Has been often told that small men-of-war were cruising upon these coasts. The Lords sent down to the Commons an Address for their concurence to the King to give some order for the security of the islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Wight, Scilly, Anglesey, etc. but they have made no progress in it. Touches on some further parliamentary business. |
