Disgrifiad | Camp near Athenree, 18th July - They marched from 'Clankeen' on the 16th about 4 in the morning and encamped at Lough Rea, on the next morning the Lord Bryan, brother to the Earl of Inchiquin came over to them with 4 or 5 men. They decamped this morning about 8 and marched beyond Athenree having a very wet, windy march. This day they lie still; tomorrow they march to Gallway from where they hope to give a good account. Camp near Athenree 19, past 7 - Are now on their march towards Gallway which place is it said, will not surrender. Last night came an express from their camp before Gallway which said that they sat down before it on the 19th and the next day took a fort by storm putting all therein to the sword, which so terrified those in the town that they beat a parley and desired 4 days to consider on conditions, but the general would not grant them an hour. Have an account from Cashel that about 400 or 500 of the enemy's horses appeared before that place but soon as the English troops drew out they withdrew and were off. Have no Dublin intelligence come forth this week yet |
