The siting of the obelisk on the Tyn Alltran rocks or Salt Island; junketings at Baron Hill for "the son and heir"; Sir Charles Paget's election for C'fon; a whiff of scandal that "... two of the Maids of Honor ..... are gone on a tour of Germany to deposit little pledgesof the King's attention" (no.171). An accident to the steam packet under Capt. Skinner; seeks his father's approval to contact Lord Boston about the lease of Llanidan (no.173). More of the packet accident; Miss Pennant is to marry her cousin E. Douglas; has seen Llanidan, "... but Lord Boston is an unpleasant man of business"; Sir Richard (Bulkely) "... has spoilt the view from Baron Hill windows by his stone balustrade wht cuts the eye ...", and "... is not a very attentive Member of Parliament" (no.174). Has obtained sheldrakes for his father, and is rearing them prior to their despatch to Alderley Park; has had some initial difficulty forming a Friendly Society at Holyhead, mainly because of the local clergyman's insistence on promoting the interests of his own father's rival society at Bryngwran; rumours of the formation of a Conservative Association in Anglesey (no. 176). The clergyman has had a stove erected in the Church, "... in the centre of the Penrhos Bradwen bench", and "the object is evident annoyance"; awaits his father's instructions (no.177).
