Teitl | Release by Margaret Powell, late wife of Thomas Powell of Skeiviog, co.Fflint, in consideration of a sum of money paid to her and Thomas Powell [her son?, doct. torn], by William Jones, of a parcel of land, 1/12 acres in extent in the township of Gellilyfdy. |
Disgrifiad | One of the witnesses present at the livery, and the penman of the release, is "John Jones, scriptor", probably the famous John Jones of Gellilyfydy, fruitful and famous copyist of Welsh MSS. The document is badly torn. Was this W.J. of the Plas Gwyn family? Would William, son of John ap Rees ap William, enter into such a transaction during the lifetime of his father ( J. ap R. died in 1638)? W.J., " the elder" was not yet born. Perhaps the purchase arose from the aquaintance, in London, of John Jones with Hugh Jones, the London mercer, one of the sons of John ap Rees ap William. Some difficulty seems to have developed concerning the release, as it was produced before a Commission on 9 April, 162[?]. |
