| Disgrifiad | Captain Galt gives notice of his intention to quit the Baths in November, 1831, having run the concern at a loss after laying our £200 on repairs and improvements. Disclaiming liability for dilapidation and owing a year's rent, he is threatened with legal proceedings by the Marquess' solicitors, but on his being declared bankrupt no further action is seemingly taken. Meanwhile, it is clear that the Baths are becoming more and more of a "White Elephant"; in June 1833, the billiard-room, "which has never paid for fire or marker", is leased to Captain Goddard for converting into a custom House; Sanderson even offers him the ladies' swimming-bath as well ! |
