Disgrifiad | This unit and several that follow it is the outcome of the activities of the justices of the peace of Caernarvon county in divisional and quarter sessions in matters of local administration, and the contents of this particular one are as varied as the duties that devolved upon the justices. First in importance comes the series of minutes, mostly of quarter session, which are very nearly complete from 1790-1835. Then come papers arising out of particular functions such as jury lists, lists of freeholders for several years, the rates of carriage to be charged by carriers and rates of composition for statute labour. Lastly come papers arising out of speical circumstances and functions, such as executing the Population Act of 1811 and executing special orders for making returns of poor rates and returns of labourers' wages, or papers reflecting the notable events of the year 1795, when a special distribution of corn was made and when the good conduct of the military called into the county deserved special thanks. |
