Description | Affords for the years 1812 - 1819, a vivid comparison with the entries in the aforesaid diaries (Amlwch Manuscripts 5-22). Arranged by name of client; particulars of work done on left, payments received on right. A record of variegated activity at the beginning of the 19th century - surveys preparatory to exchange of lands, apportioning of allotments and parcelling out roads under the Enclosure Acts; title-apportionments,a buildings of turnpike roads, perambulating boundaries. As interesting as any are the technical entries about 'nicking' lots, examining "qualities," and paying the chain-drawers. The main area of his activities were Denbighshire and Flintshire, the Cefn Amlwch estate in Llyn and the hundred of Arwystli in Montgomery; early on he was surveying in South West Lancs (p.1); towards the end of his life he was drawn more and more to North Cardiganshire (pp. 51-60). The diaries and the ledger between them supply background and dates for the maps (Amlwch Mnauscirpts 24-67).
