Description | Opens with the proceedings of the first "Open Court of the Burgesses of the Borough" to be held since the passing of the Municipal Corporations Act, "for the purposes of electing fit persons qualifies to be Councillors of the said Borough" (26 December 1835). Subsequently the Court met in March of each year to elect two burgesses to be auditors and two to be assessors of the borough and in November to elect the councillors. Interspersed with the proceedings of the Court are those of the Borough Council, which apart from Special meetings met quarterly in January, April, July and November. At the November meeting it proceeded to the election of the Mayor, Treasurer and other borough officials. |
