TitleArticles of agreement between Lady Sophia Bulkeley, widow of Henry Bulkeley, deceased, and her sons and daughters (on the one part) and Thomas Bulkeley of Dinas [Llanwnda], brother and acting executor of Henry Bulkeley.
DescriptionThomas and Henry were sons of Thomas, first Viscount Bulkeley, Henry being a particularly staunch adherent of the Stuart dynasty, Master of the Household to both Charles II and James II, accompanying James to exile in France, and mixed up in plots for his restoration. His conversion to Roman Catholicism and his death as a prescribed exile in a foreign country caused considerable difficulties in the way of making his will operative in this country. This doct. is practically a voluntary agreement amongst the members of the family to renounce probate, solemnly swear several times over to one another not to seek or take advantage of probate, and proceed to accept the decisions of Thomas B. over the management of the estate, its distribution between the parties, &c. Lady Sophia [Stewart] was sister to the Duchess of Richmond; her daughter Charlotte married the Viscount Clare in the kingdom of Ireland; her daughter Anne [not Arabella] was second wife of the famous James, Duke of Berwick, natural son of James II; the eldest son James seems to have settled in France
