TitleDocuments relating to the release of Hafod y Llin in commote Twrcelyn
Descriptionby Tudur ap Robert ap David ap Rees of Penhwnllys to Elen, wife of William Bulkeley the elder, land which T. ap R. had purchased from David ap Kenrick ap Grono, who was a free tenant of the King in commote Llifon. The two first of the three were signed and sealed on 21 March,1470-1471, during the few months when Henry VI was reinstated on the throne by Warwick the "King-maker"; the year is called here the 49th since the inchoatio of his reign, and the first since his readoptio. However, the regularising of the transaction by the Justice of North Wales is dated 1 Nov.,11 Edward IV, which is November in the same year 1471.
The witnesses of the release introduce the names of two clerics of the period not otherwise known, viz., Griffith ap Iollyn, rector of Llaniestyn, and John Forest, clericus and notary public.
A further document has come to light which proves that the release was really the foreclosing of a mortgage on Hafod y Llin made by T. ap E. on 4 Nov., 1468 (and even of a mortgage before that, 21 May, 1451). With these is the actual release of Hafod y Llin to Tudur by David ap Kenrick ap Grono (May, 1424)
