TitleFour documents concerning Afon Cefni, Ceint and Hirdrefaig and overflowing marsh ground
DescriptionSerious concern of interested landlords about making a new bed to receive the current of Afon Cefni, about the overflowing of the marsh ground of Ysceifiog and Lledwigen, the further problem of the rivers of Ceint and Hirdrefaig, and the chiefest problem of all, viz., how to secure the maintaining, cleansing, scouring, and keeping open the aforementioned "new Bedde" if and when it was made. First comes the agreement of 20 April, 1637, between Richard Bulkeley, esq., Thomas Cheadle of Beaumaris, and William Bulkeley of Llangristiolus [i.e.,Lledwigan] on the one part, and Sir Thomas Holland of Berw on the other. Next comes the agreement of 20 May, 1664, almost in the selfsame words (with a bond of obligation in £200) between Robert, second Lord Bulkeley on the one side, and Nicholas Bagnall of Plas Newydd together with Jane Holland of Berw, on the other, one article of which insisted that the "new bed" should be completed by 24 Aug., 1665. On that very date, a further agreement was concluded between the same parties, which admitted that the 1664 agreement had not brought effective results but that the opening and scouring of the Ysceifiog watercourses will serve for the same” [Compare with BHILL/1695]
