DescriptionThree documents, all dated 15 January, 1620-1621, amply illustrative of the money difficulties which were already clouding the fortunes of the house of Porthamel: Richard Bulkeley and Rowland Bulkeley his son make a deed of lease to John Lewis of Presaddfed, William Griffith of Penrhyn, and Humphrey Jones of Beaumaris, of a large part of their freehold of inheritance (demesne of Porthamel excepted) on condition that they [the lessees] raise the sum of £900 and lawful interest [to pay debts, to all appearance]; provision for short sub-leases; arrangements necessary on the possible death of Richard and the succession of Rowland
