TitleArbitrament and award of Sir Richard Bulkeley of Ye Old Barn ["Bawne"], co. Dublin, upon differences that are “likely to arise and ensue" between Jane Meyrick, widow, of Richard Meyrick of Bodorgan, and her brother Francis [of Porthamel and Llangefni] he who entered into a phenomenal number of bonds of obligation, eventually brought an unhappy death to himself, and endless trouble to a large number of creditors; anyone who has examined the numerous bonds in which his sister Jane is joined with himself is not surprised at the difficulties that were very likely to arise
Description This Sir Richard [who must very clearly be distinguished from the Bulkeleys of Baron Hill, though a distant kinsman, he being son to William Bulkeley, archdeacon of Dublin, and grandson to Launcelot Bulkeley, Archbishop of Dublin, the Archbishop being one of the numerous half-brothers of Sir Richard Bulkeley the third] decided that Francis Bulkeley was singly and solely responsible for the debts under the bonds, and declared that before 29th Sept., 1709, Francis is to clear off all the aforesaid debts [this was something much more easily said than done, since he admits they then amounted to about £5,000]; he also awarded that a deed of mortgage he made upon the Penmynydd demesne, the mill, Dyffryn Ucha and Isa, so that Jane will get £900 from the consideration (but this mortgage could not be effected before the death of Coningsby Williams, who was now in possession of Penmynydd and once married, [but without issue] to Margaret Owen, cousin of Jane and Francis
