| Description | between Rowland Bulkeley on the one part, and David ap Meredith ap Gwilym of Llanfairfechan on the other, by the two arbitrators, William ap Meredith ap Rees and Morris ap Rees ap Gwilym (3 May, 1527). The trouble arose over lands in Blaen y Llwyn, once belonging to Ieuan ap Llywelyn ap Hoell, and which [apparently] had come into Bulkeley's hands and leased to D. ap M. if not to his father before him; at least there were great arrears of rent due to R.B. The arbitrators’ work proved easy, as D. ap M. voluntarily desisted from his claim, and prayed upon his knees that the said Rowland should "for God is sake" forgive him the arrearages of rent; all they had to do was to put the same on record, and award 6/8 to D. ap M. in recompense of a house he had built on one parcel named Murddyn y Gwyndy.
Usually, bonds of obligation to observe the award were signed by the parties before the award was made; in this case, the arbitrators order both sides to observe the settlement "on payn of £20".
The award gives the undoubted impression that D. ap M. had already surrendered his claims to Blaen y Llwyn; however, the release to that effect (BHILL/2983) was not made till 7 December in this same year 1527. BHILL/2984 is a release of several parcels of land in the township (including Blaen y Llwyn) by a certain Meredith ap David ap Meredith to Meredith ap Gwilym ap Ieuan Lloyd, David’s father (end of October, 1475) |
