Description | In order to encourage people to build houses had marked out several lots of ground with a frontage of 20 or 30 feet and about 100 ft, in depth; when the houses were completed he granted leases for three lives. Unfortunately, there was no contract in writing, but possession was given when the buildings were completed by Mr Rowland W. the agent, leases were prepared and executed when Lord B. came to Wales (but he had not been in Wales for three years previous to his decease). About 20 houses in course of erection at his death and between £3,000 and £4,000 spent thereon. The Trustees have no power to execute the leases, though they appreciate the great benefit to the estate if the system be continued "particularly as the new Road from Beaumaris to Holyhead passes through the estate and many persons are desirous of taking lots ... for building, if they could obtain leases for 3 lives". Both an eminent Chancery barrister [whose name is not given] and the counsel (Richard Preston) were of opinion that an application must be made to Parliament to regularise the position |
