TitleFifty-four letters, almost all to Sir Hugh Williams, and extending from 1748 to 1765
DescriptionA good deal about his Army career from his nomination as extraordinary aide-de-camp to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland to his commission as Lieutenant-Col. in the 53rd. Foot, the difficulties of rapid promotion, his career in the later stages of the Seven Years' War, and his continued ill-health at Gibraltar. Several letters from his father-in-law, Thomas Rowlands of Caerau: the latter's death in 1763 led to the important letter of 6 June in thet year, pressing upon the authorities his desire to return home to superintend his estate and endeavour to recover political Anglesey to the Bulkeley interest, now held by Owen Meyrick of Bodorgan in the county and by the "foreigner" Price of Rhiwlas in the boroughs. There are two letters (early in 1762) from Lady Anne Prendergast, cousin to Sir Hugh, a lady who had made rather inauspicious marriages with two Prendergasts of Ireland; some very severe strictures upon her and her doings are contained in a letter of Feb. 21, 1763, written by Thomas Evans of the Temple, one of Sir Hugh's most trusted agents
