| Description | Manuscript volume containing copies written in fifteenth century hand and in excellent condition of the Extents of North Wales (Caernarvonshire, Anglesey, Merionethshire) compiled temp. Edward III and Henry V and found printed from other manuscripts in the so-called Record of Caernarvon.
Four small membranes in later hands have been sewn to leaves containing entries relating to the townships of Castellior, Treflan, Dinlle and Wig. The first three are merely sections of the original extents omitted by the copyist. The last named is a petition (post Henry V) from two villeins of Wig to the Chamberlain of North Wales complaining that they have to bear the whole burden of "staurum" payment in Arllechwedd Isaf and praying for relief.
The volume also includes most of the Additamenta (temp. Henry VII to Elizabeth) printed on pp. 295-303 of the Record of Caernarvon.
The first leaf begins with the opening sentences of the Statute of Rhuddlan in a fifteenth century hand. There follow two memoranda relating to legal business in the Exchequer temp. Henry VIII and then a note to this effect: - "18 January 1608. Received into the office of the Exchequer the day and year above written by virtue of a letter written to the Rt. Hon. Sir Richard Gwynn and others by the Rt. Hon. Philip, Earl of Montgomery, Chamberlain of North Wales, this book of extent of North Wales by the hand of Humphrey Jones gent.,: son and heir of Maurice Jones, late baron of the Exchequer under the Rt. Hon. Sir John Foxeine [Fortescue?], one of His Majesty's Privy Council and late Chamberlain of North Wales. Containing in number 72 leaves. Received by me and signed Richard Gwyne".
At the bottom of the leaf a very mutilated memorandum appears dated 27 April 17 Henry VII, relating to the appearance of Richard Peek before the Council at Chester. The names of Thomas Bolde, John ap Madoc ap Howel and William Spicer are mentioned.
