| Description | Cryptic and mysterious references, and seems to hold in high favour two men, viz., Henry, Lord Newport, who does not figure anywhere amongst the members of the High Ercall family in the D.N.B., XL 355-360, but was M.P. for co. Salop, 1713-1722; and “ye Worshipfull Thomas Jones, Esq.” who very likely was the M.P. for Shrewsbury Borough in the parliaments of 1700-1710; and was elected also in March, 1714-15, but died on July 31 in that year (Owen and Blakeway: Hist. Shrewsbury 2,552) - probably the second son of a former member, Sir Thomas Jones, Chief Justice of the Common Pleas (D.N.B., XXX,167) |
