AdminHistoryReverend John Ellis was vicar of Llanbadrig in Anglesey from 1770 to 1777, and of Llanrug in Caernarfonshire from 1777 to 1792. He was the son of Henry Ellis, a Caernarfon solicitor and clerk of the peace, whose first wife was Elizabeth Thomas of Coed Helen, his second was John Ellis' mother, a member of the Taltreuddyn and Llanfair-is-gaer families. The Ellis family provided many Anglesey and Caernarfon clerics; Reverend Ellis's brother Morgan held various incumbencies in the county of Anglesey. It seems John Ellis was a connoisseur of fine wines and ales, was interested in literature and friendly with the local gentry.
