Map of Wales "Cambriae Typus" by Humphrey Lhuyd [Llwyd]
Description
This is the earliest published map of Wales as a separate region from the rest of Great Britain. It was published by Abraham Ortelius, in the 1573 "Additamentum" to the 1570 publication of "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum".
This coloured map has been cut from the publication and pasted onto card.

Humphrey Lhuyd) (1527–1568) was a Welsh cartographer, author, antiquary and Member of Parliament. He was a leading member of the Renaissance period in Wales along with other such men as Thomas Salisbury and William Morgan.
