AdminHistoryArtist and writer Nathaniel Neal Solly (1811–1895) was born at Clapton, East London. Moving to Staffordshire, he became an iron master and traded as Hollis, Solly and Sons at Tividale, Rowley Regis.
In 1844 he married Martha Fordham at Royston in Cambridgeshire, and the couple had children Leonard and Marion. They lived at The Priory in Royston and at Odsey House (owned by the Fordham family), Guilden Morden, Cambridgeshire.
Solly is best known for writing a Memoir of the Life of David Cox in 1873, the first book-length biography of Cox. Watercolourist David Cox was one of the most important figures of the Birmingham School of artists.
