TitleDocuments relating to the sale of Caeau Ffowc and Cae Mawr 'alias' Cae Eithin, situate in Llanfaes and St. Katharine's, but within the liberties of the borough of Beaumaris, by the Hamptons of Henllys to Sir Thomas Holland of Berw: lease and release bonds of obligation receipt, etc.
DescriptionThomas Cheadle was a prominent person in these transactions: others were John Griffith of Tal-y-bont in Llangeinwen, and Dr Robert Whyte, prebendary of Penmynydd; it is rather surprising to find the latter witnessing a document in which Cheadle figures at a juncture when Whyte's nephew, Henry Whyte, is bringing forward the most serious charges against the same Cheadle (cp. document HEN/13 with 'Calendar of Gwydir Papers', papers 1624-1625). It is surprising also, to find the document bringing into close juxtaposition Thomas Cheadle, the alleged poisoner (by implication) of Sir Richard Bulkeley, and Sir Thomas Holland, who was full first cousin to the same Sir Richard. It is evident that Thomas Cheadle was not at this juncture of time held in such execration by the squires of Anglesey as the pro-Bulkeley party would have us believe. It is curious that Sir Thomas Holland about 1633-4 is deemed worthy (Gwydir, 1574) of the epithet 'murderous' by Lady Ann Cheadle (previously Bulkeley), while her husband a few years later finds it easy to transact business with the same Holland of Berw
