TeitlProceedings at law in the Chancery of the Great Sessions of Anglesey, etc.
DisgrifiadThe litigation arose because of conflicting interpretations relating to the terms of the indenture of 22nd November, 1658 (HEN/45). The plaintiff was William Lloyd of Llansadwrn, heir and surviving son of Humphrey Lloyd of Murddyn Gwyn; the defendants were his sister Mary and her husband Richard Hughes of Chwaen Ddu, coroner for Anglesey.
HEN/42 is the plaintiff's case (1671) which provides some useful information otherwise unknown: that the marriage settlement of R.H. and Mary was agreed upon on 18th February, 1659-1660, that Mary's dower was £180 (with another £50 on certain conditions); that William Bold of Tre'rddol and his wife Florence (Wood) were parties to the settelement of 1660, which is directly negative to 'Pedigrees', 137, which say that Bold died in 1652; that Ellen Williams made her will on 11th March, 1666-1667, and died about 1668. [This husband of Florence Wood must have been the William Wynn alias Bold who figures in Pedigrees, 137]
HEN/43 is a series of interrogatones to be put to the plaintiff and his witnesses.
HEN/44 are the answers to the two defendants (1671). The decree of the court was pronounced on 14th August, 1678 (HEN/45);
HEN/46 is an indenture of 24th August, 1678, by which Richard and Mary Hughes solemnly abjure any claims that they might have to the lands referred to in the document of 22nd November 1658, but a note of 28th August in the same year proves that Richard Hughes was still in refractory mood over the sums of money he had to pay under the Chancery decree of 14th August.
