TeitlCopy of the last will and testament of William Lloyd, clerk
DisgrifiadSeveral interesting legacies, especially to Richard Hughes the younger of Castellior, and his brothers John, a London ironmonger, and William, a doctor in the army.
Several considerations point to the testator as William Lloyd, officer of excise, and father to the well-known cleric William Lloyd of Cowden, (Pedigrees, 93); if so, why is that worthy cleric not mentioned in the will? The one pedigree that seems to fit the persons and relationships in this will is that of the Hughes family of Bodrwyn (J.E. Griffith, p.139), only 'Bodrwyn' is not 'Castellior'. The matter must be left 'sub iudice'. If the above surmise about William Lloyd be correct, 'clerk' in this document does not connote a person in holy orders.
Document HEN/54 contains the final settling-up accounts of Lloyd's executor (1st February, 1753), which has incidental references to his last days. The 'John Jones of Henllys', whose name occurs in the document, is John Jones of Trefollwyn who had married the heiress of the third Robert Hampton, and was nephew to William Lloyd the testator
