TitleMarriage settlement of William Morgan of Henblas and Doulce (Dulcibella) Jones, dr. of Capt. Henry Jones of Llangoed and Margaret. dr. of Edwards Wynn of Bodewryd.
DescriptionMarriage portion, £1,000, made up of money, tithes, and securities. The feofees in trust were two brothers-in-law of the lady (Roger Hughes of Plas Coch and William Bulkeley of Brynddu, father of the diarist), and two brothers-in-law of William Morgan - Dr. Humphrey Humphreys, Lord Bishop. of Bangor, and Thomas Lloyd of Cefn Meiriadog, Registrar of St. Asaph. The document was drafted by the Beaumaris attorney, Owen Hughes Yr Arian Mawr; his name stands first among the witnesses. The lands enfeoffed supply a good conspectus of the Henblas estate at the end of the 17th cent. Doulce is quite a popular christian name in the Henblas table. But it did not start with this Doulce Jones of Llangoed; Capt. Jones's mother was a Doulce, daughter of Rowland Whyte of Fryers, while Whyte's own mother was a Doulce, daughter of a Beaumaris merchant (Pedigrees, 130).
