Description | Large number of feofees in trust named. More interesting is the list of lands placed in trust, affording a pretty clear idea of W.E.'s landed position at the time of his marriage: Borth in the parish of Bangor, Llethrddu, Maes-y-cwn and Planwydd in Llanaelhaiarn, Bryncroes and Wern in Clynnog, Tir Evan David in Llangadwaladr. Wern in Clynnog is no doubt the Wern Uchaf of the 1676 doctument (HENB/90), secured in the interim by W.E. or his father. The outstanding mystery of the document is the description of W.E.'s father as "Richard Evans of Bwlan in the county of Anglesey" and not as "Richard ap Evan" of Llethrddu (Pedigrees, 135), made more mysterious by the absence of any Bwlan lands from the marriage-trust. The Evanses of Bwlan were well-known Anglesey people, an offshoot of Tre'rgo in Heneglwys; but their pedigree does not contain a person that fits in with William Evans of Vaenol (the Vaenol connection is fully explained by his son Charles in documents HENB/23-25). With our present knowledge, the Bwlan reference must remain a mystery. The marriage took place in Oct., 1725; marriage portion, £1,000 (originally put as £1,100). There are also three evidences of the preliminary discussions leading up to the settlement (HENB/9-11). |
