TeitlLast will and testament of Griffith ap John ap William of Clynnog; proved at Bangor by his wife Sabel, 8 May 1639
DisgrifiadBequeaths a tenement bought of Edmund ap Evan ap Hugh to his eldest son John, on condition that the latter pays £60 to his youngest brother Richard full and particular details of his bequest to his three daughters Elin, Lowri and Catherine, to be made up in the main from the many debts owing to him, Lowri also to get the tenement of Llech Ddwyfor, once the land of Evan [ap] John Evan.
The debts and debtors bring out the names of many persons in the Clynnog district in the fourth decade of the 17th century, many of them otherwise quite obscure, such as Cadwaladr ap Robert ap John Owen, William ap Morgan Rhydderch, Rowland Grifith, Harri ap Richard ap William, Owen ap Evan ap John Owen. We know hardly anything more of Richard ap Morris of Tal-y-sarn, Griffith ap Robet Griffith of Llanaelhaearn, Morgan Lloyd of Treflan, Edward Morris of Llannor, William Rowland of Waenfawr, and John Cadwaladr of Clynnog, weaver.
Thomas Glynne of Nantlle is mentioned (High Sheriff of Caernarfonshire ten year before).
References to a son, Morris, to a son-in-law, David ap Harry; to other daughters named Margaret, Annes and Jane.
The will was drawn up by John Griffith, cler. [no doubt curate of Clynnog] and is altogether a most interesting and informing document, with its references to Caernarvon fair, the guardianship of certain children, and debts due from him to others
