Rhif Cyf AmgHENB/128
TeitlDeed of mortgage, with the necessary procedure at the Caernarfonshire Great Sessions, by Robert Evans of Caernarfon to Andrew Brereton of Llanfairisgaer, upon a small estate in the township of Dinlle, once the property of Richard Evans, M.A., rector of Llanaelhaiarn.
DisgrifiadIt consisted of Tyddyn yr Hendre, Cae Mawr, Cae Rhydhir alias Cae'r Gors, Buarth y Defaid, Cae Sgubor; also Tyddyn y Cae Mawr and Melin Llanwnda; also Tyddyn y Felin Gafnog, Dol Geyhellin, Y Wern Ddofn, Erw'r Scawen (not Cinnen or Cnien as in 1591, HENB/123-124), and Tir Hugh ap William ap Hulkin; in addition, Tyddyn Adda Goch, Collfryn, Tyddyn Madog, Melin y Bont Faen, and others, all conveyed heretofore by Richard Evans to his son Robert. Consideration, £55. At once it must be noted that the hypothesis of HENB/123-124 does not hold: these papers did not come to Henblas because of the consanguinity of Evans of Vaenol with the Evanses of Elernion, but as coherent evidences in the Brereton release of 1742. Also, it is a bit queer that there is no place in the Elernion table (Pedigrees, 175) for this mortgagor, Robert son of Richard Evans, only for sons Edmund and Humphrey; it can be inferred in addition that Robert had some interests over the Border, for the third party to the transaction was Richard Niccols of Whittington in Salop. Robert Evans signs at the foot, in a very elegant hand. Nor should the witnesses pass without notice: Ran[dolph] Bold, not included in the Bold table (159); William Foxwist; William Morgan, sexton; George Beake (not Peake), dyer; and others.
