Disgrifiad | Feofees were William Glynne of Hendre, county of Caernarfonshire, and William Bold of Llanedwen. The Llanwnda tenements were Tyddyn y Felin Gafnog and "dole kay heilin" (notice the transition from the old spelling of Dôl Gehelyn in the documents of 1591 (HENB/123-124). The wife's name is spelt Ellianor in the text; rather surprisingly, that is exactly how she writes it herself at the foot. The Pedigrees (98) put on record the marriage of Brereton to Elin, sister of Owen Roberts of Cleifiog, which is supported by Brereton's description of Owen Roberts as his brother-in-law (see his will, HENB/132). But the Pedigrees also say she died on April 4, 1684 - how can that be true in face of her signature on this release of 1700? The Andrew Brereton of 1700 was not the Andrew Brereton of 1619 - either a son or a grandson. However, it is pretty certain, judging from signatures and other evidence, that the Andrew Brereton of 1700 was also the Andrew Brereton who made his will in 1723. |
