Alt Ref NoHENB/134-143
TitleGradual surrender of the Llanwnda lands : Andrew Brereton's bond to William Hughes (HENB/134); warrants of attorney; assignments of mortgage by Rice Brereton, finally to William Evans of Vaenol (HENB/141); the next step was to arrange articles of agreement for an absolute sale to William Evans (HENB/143), this on 25 January 1742-3. The actual release has not been preserved, but it looks as if the original group of lands had shrunk down to Ty Hên and Buarth Cerrig.
Consideration, £350.
DescriptionThus these Brereton papers trace the family fortunes from the first Andrew Brereton at Llanfairisgaer to the last who lived at the Black Anchor (tavern?) in Beaumaris; the migration from Llanwnda to Beaumaris must have occured between 1705 and 1723. More than one problem remains unsolved - who was the Cadwgan Brereton of document 142 and the Ellen Brereton, widow, of the same document - widow of whom? (A Cadwgan Brereton was living at Benallt in Llandwrog about 1731, according to the records of the Caernarfonshire Quarter Sessions.)
