TitlePapers which reveal how did William Evans, brother of Charles Evans of Trefeilir, and son to William Evans of Llethrddu, get possession of Glan Alaw.
DescriptionThat estate which included Llynon as well, at the end of the 17th century was held by David Williams, father of Sir William Williams the speaker and ancestor of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn; after his death, with several ramifications, it came into the hands of the Owen family of Presaddfed; there were a number of mortgages, and important interests were for a time [HENB/291] held by an Irish adventurer named Desbrisay and an ironmonger in Finchely named John Jones, but who was really none other than John, the brother of William Jones of Plas Gwyn by Pentraeth and Recorder of Beaumaris. For John Jones's will of 1774, see HENB/299; for the Glan Alaw devolution from 1700 to 1762 see HENB/292-293, 295. In 1762 however the Glan Alaw lands were bought partly by a naval surgeon names Herbert Jones (Llynon) and partly by William Evans (Glan Alaw and appurtenant lands); later they agreed to a deed of exchange and partition to define more exactly their respective possessions, 3 and 4 January 1786 (HENB/296-298)
