TeitlMarriage Settlement of William Evans of Glan Alaw and Jane, daughter of Owen Davies ("David") of Plas Ucha, Llanfaethlu; portion, £300; feofees, John Griffith of Carreg Lwyd and William Evans's brother Charles Evans of Trefeilir.
DisgrifiadAccording to Pedigrees, 122, this was the first marriage of William Evans; not so, says Richard Poole in 1788, the Beaumaris attorney who was related to the Evans family and knew them all intimately, but the second marriage (he does not, however, give the name of the first wife); the Pedigrees do say William Evans married a second time, but (as will be seen later) confuse the marriage of the father with that of the son (for Poole's statement, see HENB/312.

More, Poole goes so far as to imply that this marriage with Jane David of Llanfaethlu was not exactly a matter of lofty sentiment, but of immediate economic necessity - "to repair his distressful circumstances", adds Poole, "he married as his second wife the daughter of a rich old Man". Four documents in all - articles, settlement, copy, and certificate of marriage.
