TitleLetter from Kenneth Jackson, 2 Queen Edith House, Queen Edith's Way, Cambridge to Ifor Williams
DescriptionHe has taken part in a "mead-feast" last week.
Mead has been brewed privately in the Eastern Countries from time immemorial but it is now illegal to sell it without license. The Bursar of St Catherine's College was recently given a bottle by W. Clay. It is a beautiful clear bright yellow liquid. At first, one notices the sweetness but soon a bitterness. This may add even further point to the sweet : bitter contract in the Gododdin.
The alcoholic content was much higher than beer, and has a peculiar effect of paralysing the legs while leaving the head quite clear.
