Description | The first (3) is a mere copy of the account given in the Report of the Commissioners (temp Williams IV), pp. 765-766, and is practically identical with the Endowed Charities Report, Anglesey, 1897, 431-432; the second (4) is a letter accompanying it to Lord Boston from H.R.Hughes., Madyn, Amlwch (May 18.1868), who was no other than the perpetual curate of Penrhoslligwy who nine years before had worked so generously and wholeheartedly in tackling the various problems incident to the wreck of the Royal Charter (though his name was not so prominent as that of his brother, the Rev. Stephen Roose Hughes of Llanallgo); it is one of the many mysterious lacunae of Foster's Alumi Oxon. (1715-1886,p.706) that he has no Knowledge about H.R.H except that he had taken his degrees at Oxford. It was natural for the Rev.Hughes to write from Madyn, for the good reason that he and S.R.H were sons of Dysw by Amlwch, father William Hughes. He admits that he himself had benefited from the Lloyd Charity while at Jesus College;and a perusal of the Anglesey Report of 1897 abundantly proves that. H.R.H, together with [the fourth] Lord Boston and others were very active (1862-1863) in reorganising the Charity as to bring larger and more immediate benefit to the parish of Penrhos (see especially pp.434-436) |
