Alt Ref NoLLIG/554-571
TitleProposed exchanged of lands in the parishes of Llanddaniel, Llanedwen, and Llaneilian Marquess of Anglesey (1872-1874)
DescriptionIt was not consummated for various reasons: the areas proposed were too disparate, the Llaneilian parcel was declared to be "half rock" (555), and there was difficulty between the two agents about the appointment of arbitrators. About the most interesting items are the "long story" told to Lord Boston by Mr Henry Fitzmaurice (566), and the long but clearly-written and vigorously-expressed letter of Lewis Jones of Llwynon, who was disappointed that the exchange did not come to fruition (567). The latter, judging from the contemporary registers of voters for the county, was a substantial occupier of land in Llanedwen, while Henry Wattender Fitzmaurice was first cousin to the fifth Lord Boston, and brother to the sixth Earl of Orkney (for a time he lived in Plas Llwynon). LLIG/554 is a map.
