Description | Solicitor Richard Roberts of Caernarvon was the main mover, in behalf of Samuel Jones, Llandinorwic, once a writing-slate manufacturer; the party did not want to divulge the name of the spot where this coal could be obtained on Lord Boston's land (evidently in the Llanidan-Brynsiencyn area), for fear such information would be itulised by other parties, or (possibly) by Lord Boston himself; for the latter's strictures on the application, see his letter of 24 October, 1900 (LLIG/455). As far as these papers go, no action was taken. The only definite information gleaned from them is the fact that Mr Nicholls Jones, Lord Boston's agent, and Mr C.A. Jones of Bron Hendre, Caernarvon, were both old boys of Beaumaris Grammer School.
Note: There is quite an interesting reference to the career of the above Samuel Jones, a very devout Churchman and benefactor of the Church in Wales, in the Cymro for May, 1942, p.8 S.J. died 95 years of age |
