Disgrifiad | These serve the excellent purpose of illustrating his multifarious interests: LLOYD/155 is a report to the Denbighshire Education Committee, of which he was a member for many years; LLOYD/161 reminds us that he was Chairman of the Welsh Cong. Hist. Soc., from its inception; LLOYD/175 that he was President of the Caerns. Hist. Soc., also from its inception; LLOYD/178 that he was one of the most influentiel members of the Executive Committee of the Bala-Bangor Independent College. In denominational matters he worked in close contact with the late Principal J. Morgan Jones; his article on Rhyddid y Pulpud (Dysgedydd, 1925), and that on Addysg y Weinidogaeth (Efrydydd, 1929), show how far he shared the Principal's desire for ample space and freedom in both respects; but his article on Gwleidyddiaeth y Testament Newydd (LLOYD/151), and especially his speech during the Bangor War Weapons week in 1941 (LLOYD/138), prove how far apart they were in matters of politics and war. Several book reviews appear in the bundle, some full of appreciation (as, for example, the review on Professor R.T. Jenkins's Apel at Hanes (LLOYD/167, Welsh Outlook, 1930), some unmistakably critical like that on Professor Evan J. Jones's History of Education in Wales (LLOYD/168, Welsh Outlook, 1931). He was particularly pleased with Peniarth 20 as edited by Thomas Jones of the U.C.W. (LLOYD/177, Arch. Camb., Dec., 1941). There are severel memorial contributions, masterly, dignified, well-informed; Principal T.C. Edwards (LLOYD/146). Principal Thomas Rees (LLOYD/159), Thomas Hughes, Wesleyan minister (LLOYD/163), T.E. Ellis (LLOYD/174) Principal J. Morgan Jones (LLOYD/180). Naturally, he was an outstanding authority on the career and character of the late Principal H.R. Reichel of U.C.N.W., as proved by his article in the University Bulletin for 1927 (LLOYD/160), by another article in the Omnibus for 1931 (LLOYD/169), which paved the way for the memorial volume pub. in 1934, and edited by Sir John Lloyd. There are also included in this group the article on the Old Celtic Calendar that appeared in the U.C.N.W. Magaine for 1893 (LLOYD/144), which may be compared with the more general and mature MS. lecture of 1932 (96). LLOYD/150 is a copy of the Eich Dyn analysis that appeared in the Beirniad of 1917 |
