DescriptionAlfred Anscombe writes sound sense and some heresies (2); letters from Canon Bennister of Hereford (7-9); E. Neil Baynes has the interests of the Anglesey Antiq. Soc. at heart (14-19). In 28-32 Professor Brandis puts some puzzles about Foulk Fitz Warin; in 45 T.C. Cantrill is curious about the exact significance of eneynt in the Welsh Laws; more difficult stuff from Edmund Curtis. Sir John was patient over the late Dr H.R. Davies's queries about the Menai ferries (71-79), answers the present National Librarian (in 1929) about the possibility of having summaries of M.A. theses in the B.B.C.S. (88); and lays a definite ban on Welsh - Israelite views (93). T.P. Ellis objects to the term Pabyddion for Welsh Catholics (106); the daffodil has no ancient evidence behind it in the St David's Day controversy (111); Llyfr Coch Asaph is discussed by Mr D.L. Evans of the P.R.0. (114-116). Sir Vincent Evans gives J.E.L. plenty of work in arranging meetings at the Bangor National of 1931 (123-129), while in 133-4 we have the last notes received from Chancellor John Fisher before his death. Under G we have Dr Willoughby Gardner's short notes (142-144); Dr Edward Greenly reporting upon the death of his cat Captain (146); very interesting letters from John Griffith of Bodfair, dealing with music and geology (147-150). Questions from a gentleman interested in Twthills in various localities (168-171). Gwili (177); Professor R.T. Jenkins (178-180); the relations between Monmouthshire and Wales (183-4); the Bardsey - Pembrokeshire myth (191); Peredur Jones and castle-building in north Wales (206). The letters from Professor J. Lloyd Jones (212) and from Professor Henry Lewis (229) prove how searching was Sir John's quest for information about the Cymerau battle described in Hist. Carm. i, 188-190. Query about the form Caer Drois (225-6); letter from Sir Richard Lodge regarding Sir Harry Reichel's death in 1931 (238); E.W. Lovegrove's letters (239-245); Lynn-Thomas's heresies about the site of Mynydd Carn and the Cenarth tumuli (249-250); R.A.S. Macalister's painstaking letter over the deciphering of the Yarrow inscription in 1935 (252); Allen Mawer's theories on the names Scudamore and Morlas (259, 261); Pant-y-Saer diggings at Ty'nygongl in 1933 (292-293). J. Arthur Price has six letters (294-299), all difficult to read, adumbrating against some practices of the Welsh Nationalists (though himself a sympathiser), and betraying his Anglo-Catholic outlook in his strictures on Welsh nonconformity. Was Pelagius born at Llanrhaiadr-ym-Mochnant (304)? Principal J.F. Rees writes 311-314, answering good wishes on his accession to the Cardiff Principalship in 1929, reporting the appointment of Dr William Rees to the Chair of Welsh History there, and giving the general plan of the Glam. County History Vol.1. Professor Stanley Roberts on Aberystwyth place names (337). Doris Stenton, wife of the historian Sir Frank Stenton, herself a great researcher and Hon. Sec. of the Pipe Roll Society, asks some questions and tells Sir John of the latest Welsh news from the Pipe Rolls (348-360). Interesting reminiscences by Sir Lleufer Thomas (366); more about Iolo's devices from G.J. Williams (394-6). 382 is wonderful for its unconventional script.
