Description | She was an unmarried sister of Chancellor Robert Lewis, and so aunt to the wife of the Rev. Edward Hughes, father of Lord Dinorben. Her close relations with the families of Trysglwyn, Maesmor, Plas Coch, and Madryn, find illustration in the wide extent of her bequests. Among the most interesting of these are the legacies to Mary, widow of Fortunatus Wright, the merchant and so called "pirate", and daughter to William Bulkeley the diarist of Brynddu; there was also a legacy to Susan Wright, youngest daughter of Mary and Fortunatus (though very little is known of her, this document seems to prove she was alive in 1784). There are bequests to her niece Mary, wife of the Rev. Edward Hughes, and to Mary's eldest son William Lewis Hughes - a silver soup dish and the messuage of Erwfelan, parish of Amlwch. A little more light is thrown on obscure members of the Llysdulas family : she refers to "Howel Lewis son of my late nephew Howel Lewis of London, surgeon, deceased", and to Ann Lloyd of Jermyn Street, London, widow of the late Captain Howel Lloyd who is somewhat difficult to place. |
AdminHistory | For the numerous persons mentioned in this will, one must continually consult Pedigrees, 64-5, 128. The ultimate executrix of the will was Martha, a young sister of Lord Dinorben. On account of her being under age at the making of the will and for many years afterwards, probate was not finally granted till 11 January 1810. |
