TitleLetter from Owen Hughes, London to John Owen of Penrhos
DescriptionWould have replied to Owen's letter long since if he could have had any certainty about his cousin Pierce Beane's business. It was allowed by Colonel Whytley that there is £31.15s. behind of the salary for the time John Davies served the office but he has hitherto cavilled about the payment of them in regard he never employed nor deputed John Davies. The truth is ever since Owen's sister died he (Whytley) would have disposed of the Red House with the office, and that stuck in his throat. But now all is at end for Lord Bulkeley and he (Whytley) and the writer met yesterday and his Lordship bought ought his house and he is to pay the salary. He (Bulkeley) says Owen's nephew's money will be paid in the country. Is sorry to hear Owen say that Mr. Meyrick is not inclined to peace; he will find no advantage by the law in the long run. All the news from London is that the £600,000 granted by the House of Commons to his Majesty is to be raised by a land tax.
