DescriptionThese premises were once purchased by J. ap R. from Owen Hughes of Whinburgh in Norfolk; before that they were part of the lands and hereditaments of Sir Edward Herbert of Montgomery [afterwards Lord Herbert of Chirbury] and Dame Mary his wife. By the same deed, J. ap R. demises to H.A. a parcel of land in a place called Cefn Hir, abutting on the one hand upon Erw Troed Gwylan (now held by H.A.) and on the other upon the King's highway leading to Rhoscefnhir - this land once belonged to William ap Ieuan ap Rees, grandfather of John ap Rees ap William. The document makes it clear that the grant was complete and absolute; Arthur was to be saved harmless "of for from and touchinge the dower and jointure of Elen, now wife of John ap Rees". She was the daughter of Hugh ap Rees ap Howell of Ty Fry
