TeitlAn award made by David Lloyd ap John ap William and Robert ap Richard ap Griffith, gentlemen, upon matters of variance between Jane Griffith [widow of Rees ap William of Plas Gwyn, daughter of John Griffith II of Chwaen Hen] and her son John ap Rees ap William
DisgrifiadThe arbitartors take particular notice that the parties are mother and son, and ordain that they are to meet at the parish church of Llanbedr alias Llanvaistre [Llanbedr Goch] on the first day of Lent next ensuing, and immediately after the minister's reading of the Gospel resort to the Communion Table, where John and Elin his wife [daughter of Hugh Prys ap Howel of Ty Fry, and closely connected with the Bold family] shall both kneel before Jane Griffith and meekly ask her forgivness for anything in which he and / or his wife have offended her, and John to desire his mother's blessing; Jane Griffith is "then and there openlie before the people in playne words" heartily to forgive the two, give her son her blessing and take both son and wife up by the hands. Coming to more material issues, they ordain that J.ap R. is to convey to his mother two tenements - Tir Gwillim ap Ieuan, late in the occupation of Hugh ap Llewellyn ap Hoell ap Dycus [Dicws], and Tir John ap Hoell Gethin, late in the tenure of David Lloyd ap Owen, for her natural life, in lieu and recompense of all her claims and demands upon the estate of Wiliam ap Ieuan ap Rees, by reason of her marriage with his son Rees ap William; J. ap R. also to pay his mother £20, the exact time and method of payment being given in detail; arrangements regarding heirlooms and the future omicile of Jane Griffith; reference to an action of Jane against a certain Robert ap Ieuan ap Tudur in the hundred court of Tindaethwy - Jane not to take advantage of the verdict in that case; the parties to the award (Jane Griffith and her son John) shall not pursue any cause or action that had grownor arisen between them before the solemnisation of the marriage between John ap R. and Elin his now wife.
Two points seem to be clear: that Rees ap W. had died before his father; that Jane Griffith did not view the marriage of John and Elin with any great pleasure.
